Fixing Microsoft Office for Mac Update Errors

Clicking the Close Applications button not works, and even when I go into Activity Monitor and try to close the programs, I must try several times until I can install the upgrade. Is there anything else I can try?

A. In some variations of the Microsoft Office for Mac package (like Office for Mac 2011), Sync Services along with the Microsoft Database Daemon are two components that operate in the background, but still have to be shut to install a program update. Though it was largely sidelined in recent versions of OS X, the Sync Services application was meant to assist synchronize contacts and calendar info from Microsoft helpline number will entourage and Outlook with cellular devices attached to the Mac. Even the Microsoft Database Daemon is a little utility application used with the package's reminders and notifications.

Microsoft's support website suggests turning off the Sync Services function in the Outlook program preferences before stopping Outlook -- then trying to conduct the Office updater. If that doesn't do the job, the company also suggests, as you've done, with the Activity Monitor application in the Utilities folder (which is inside the Mac's main Programs folder) to pick and stop all the Microsoft Office-related processes before attempting to upgrade Office.

However, even in the event you quit a procedure with the Activity Monitor, it may begin again very rapidly and interfere with the updater application. If you find that the Microsoft Auto Update app throwing up the alert about shutting software again, click its icon in the Mac's desktop Dock before the pop-up menu looks and select Keep in Dock; search beneath the Options menu if you don't see it instantly.

Next, visit the Apple Menu in the top-left corner of the Mac's display and log out of your accounts. Log back in again and hold down the Shift key on your computer keyboard to disable programs that begin with the Mac. Click the updater program's icon in the Dock and run the update.
